Freight forwarder in China: shipping from China to France, including urgent cargo

Choose the mode according to urgency and volume: air for urgent pallets, LCL ocean freight for smaller shipments that can wait, FCL for larger loads, or rail and road when they fit the route. Then establish who actually handles pickup, consolidation and export in China. OVRSEA has six offices in China and around 70 people on the ground.

For China-France freight, choose the transport mode for the deadline and volume, then check who handles the goods at origin. A team in China can collect, inspect, consolidate and prepare export directly. A forwarder without such a team delegates those steps. This guide covers mainland China and Hong Kong; Taiwan is a separate customs territory with its own OVRSEA team.

Which transport mode fits a shipment from China?

ModeIndicative timing to FranceWhen to consider it
Air freight5–8 days door to doorUrgent, small or high-value shipments
Grouped air freightTwo departures a week with OVRSEA; confirm the scheduleSmaller loads that can wait for a shared departure
LCL ocean freight30–45 days port to port to northern Europe, plus handlingA few cubic metres with a flexible deadline
FCL ocean freight30–45 days port to port to northern EuropeA load that fills, or nearly fills, a container
China-Europe railBetween ocean and air; quote door to doorRegular replenishment too urgent for ocean
RoadQuote door to doorA full load where road fits the route

Congestion and diversions can lengthen these estimates. Compare quotations from the same factory-ready date to the same delivery address. See the air versus ocean guide and China-Europe rail guide.

What should I do with three urgent pallets?

Ask for an air quote with the factory address, pallet count and dimensions, gross weight, product description and HS code, cargo-ready date, agreed Incoterm and required delivery date. Chargeable air weight reflects volume as well as actual weight. Flag batteries, aerosols and chemicals early: dangerous goods need the right documents before acceptance.

OVRSEA offers grouped air freight twice a week and accepts shipments under 500 kg without a minimum restriction. OVRSEA’s published example describes Saturday grouped departures from Shanghai and Hong Kong to Lyon, with about three days of air transit; confirm the current schedule for the shipment. OVRSEA’s online platform handles quotation requests, tracking and documents.

Where should cargo leave China?

Production areaMain gatewaysOVRSEA offices
North, including Beijing and HebeiTianjin port; Beijing and Tianjin airportsTianjin
East and Yangtze deltaShanghai and Ningbo ports; Shanghai Pudong airportShanghai, Ningbo
South, including GuangdongShenzhen and Guangdong ports; Hong Kong airportTwo in Shenzhen, one in Hong Kong

OVRSEA’s first Chinese office was in Shanghai. Ningbo can be an alternative depending on the sailing. Shenzhen serves Guangdong; collection shuttles connect warehouses across the province. A factory inland, such as in Wuhan, Chengdu or Chongqing, can still be served. Ask which office owns the file and how the goods reach the gateway.

How does buyer’s consolidation work in China?

Goods from several factories are delivered to a consolidation site, checked and loaded together. Shanghai, Ningbo or Shenzhen may make sense depending on supplier locations. The importer can then handle one container, one bill of lading and one import declaration. Include collection costs for every factory and the last supplier’s ready date in the comparison. The LCL versus FCL guide helps assess whether to wait or ship a lot sooner.

Which export and import documents should be checked?

Confirm that the supplier can legally export. Check the commercial invoice, packing list, product classification and any safety data sheet or licence required for the goods. The Incoterm defines who arranges and pays for each leg; see the Incoterms 2020 guide. For dangerous goods from southern China, OVRSEA’s Hong Kong team organises a grouped ocean departure twice a month; confirm its scope and capacity.

For entry into France, the importer needs an EORI number and a correct tariff classification. The carrier files the EU entry summary declaration through ICS2; the import customs declaration can be prepared ahead of arrival. Import duties are paid to customs, and French VAT rules depend on the importer’s tax position. A complete file reduces avoidable waiting, while a customs inspection may still occur.

How should I compare China-France forwarders?

QuestionWhy it matters
Who collects and consolidates in China? An intermediary may have a different schedule and priorities.
Who reports booking, cut-off and departure changes?Early notice lets you adjust the receiving plan.
Who contacts the supplier?Local staff can resolve production or document issues directly.
What origin charges are included?Pickup, terminal handling and export documents change the total.
Who handles customs in France?Clearance should be prepared during transit.
Where can I track the shipment?Shared status and documents reduce email chasing.

OVRSEA’s teams in its six Chinese offices handle collection, consolidation and export preparation without an intermediary agent. The customer requests a quote and tracks the shipment on OVRSEA’s platform. Compare quotes on a complete door-to-door scope.

What mistakes should I avoid on this trade lane?

Do not treat Hong Kong as mainland China for customs. Plan around factory closures for Lunar New Year and China’s early-October Golden Week. Compare total delivered cost rather than port-to-port freight alone. Under EXW, establish who will collect at the factory and manage export. Declare dangerous goods accurately: missing or incorrect documents can stop loading.

What changes when exporting from France to China?

Industrial goods, wine and food products may need product-specific documents or sanitary certificates on arrival in China. Temperature-controlled products need a suitable cold chain. OVRSEA’s China teams can support import clearance for FCL, reefer and groupage flows; confirm the exact service for the goods and destination.

FAQ

How should I send three urgent pallets from China to France?

Air freight is usually the practical choice for a short deadline. The China guide gives an indicative five to eight days door to door by air, versus 30 to 45 days port to port by ocean to northern Europe. Ask who will collect at the factory, check the packing and prepare French customs clearance. OVRSEA has six offices in China and offers two grouped air departures a week.

How long does shipping from China to France take?

Indicative ocean transit to northern Europe is 30 to 45 days port to port, before pickup, clearance and delivery. Air freight is estimated at five to eight days door to door. Compare rail and road on the same door-to-door scope and the same factory-ready date.

Do I need a forwarder with an office in China?

An office is useful when its team actually manages pickup, consolidation and export rather than passing them to an intermediary. Ask who owns the booking, cut-off updates and supplier communication. OVRSEA has its own teams in six Chinese offices.

Can I combine goods from several Chinese suppliers?

Yes. Buyer's consolidation brings the lots to one site before loading. Check inland pickup costs and the last supplier's ready date: a late lot can delay the whole container.

Can goods from Hong Kong join a Shenzhen departure?

Hong Kong and mainland China have separate customs regimes. Moving a Hong Kong lot into a Shenzhen consolidation requires an export from Hong Kong and import clearance into mainland China. Direct departure from Hong Kong may be simpler.
